"Schemel"

The following are plans for two types Schemel (stools). Both were drawn from original examples & were made available by Eric Tobey. We would like to thank him for his generosity, which allows us to share this research with the rest of you. Keep in mind, these stools were intended for barracks use. Please do not use them as camp stools, for outside displays, etc... These would have been found in the German barracks only, not in the field!

- No finish
except oil (many coats)
- Wood is
reddish/orange, heavy & close-grained,
looks like maple
- All edges
are rounded
- No screws or
nails visible
- Markings on
bottom, stamped in the wood:

& SOHN ?
---- LSHEIN ?

- Stool is
painted Grey, but examples of this pattern
with just oil finish exist
- Made of very
heavy wood, possibly some sort of hardwood
- Painted on
the bottom in white:
