italienischen Front 1944
(Bedford, PA)
Der Erste
Zug participated in the first public Living History weekend at Old
Bedford Village, PA based on the WWII time period. Our set-up was
that of Germans in occupied Italy in a non-active sector. We were
able to do aspects of first person that are not commonly seen on the
front line. All of which was based towards the public's
interaction & educational benefit. This was a good public
event & it helped to raise the much needed funds for the park.
We are looking forward to it again next year.
The unit
that we were representing was a Nachrichten detachment of the Gren.
Regt. 194 / 71st Infanterie Division
under the command of the German 10th Army stationed in Italy. The
division was formed on 26 August 1939 as part of the 2nd Wave.
From October 1940 to March 1941 the division served as a training troop
in Königsbrück. From November 1941 through April 1942 it served
in Belgium and France. In February 1943 it was destroyed at
Stalingrad. It would be reformed on 17 February 1943 in Denmark
& eventually sent to Italy.
